Our Story

Mopsey Shop is named for Lucy's great-grandmother, Mopsey, and the shop now goes well beyond her inspiration. Lucy and Debbie met years ago at an impromptu stitch get together at Debbie's mother's retirement community. Debbie was stitching without a painted canvas, making it up as she went. Amazed and obsessed with the design, Lucy asked if Debbie wanted to do some designing for the Mopsey Designs family. Many design meetings and stitch nights later, Lucy and Debbie each revealed that they secretly wanted to open a needlepoint store, but wouldn't do it without the other. Jumping for joy that they both had this dream, they started scheming. It took two years to find the perfect space and make our dream a reality.

Meet the Founders

Lucy Millet, Owner/Designer Mopsey Designs

HI! I'm Lucy, co-owner of Mopsey Shop and designer behind Mopsey Designs. I studied and practiced art therapy, have a background in printmaking and am obsessed with color. I see it everywhere and want to include bold and bright colors in needlepoint. I was taught to needlepoint at age 6 by my great grandmother, Mopsey, and was encouraged to continue by my grandmother, Queenie. I am committed to bringing an element of self-care, mindfulness, and an awareness of mental health to this community. I love spending time with my son and lady-husband, glitter, my pride Air Force 1s, and playing yard games.

Deb Bloomingdale

Hi! I'm Debbie, co-owner of Mopsey Shop and designer behind Grandy Deb Designs. Originally from Rockport, MA, I now live in South Portland with my husband, Peter, and little dog, Skipper. I previously owned a hot fudge company and immersed myself with family. I started needlepointing when I was a child on vacation with my mom; I've been hooked ever since. I love spending time with my grand-babies, hanging on our boat in Casco Bay and playing tons of Pickleball.

We are both truly obsessed with needlepoint and community. We hope our store is a community based needlepoint store, offering a space for all levels of stitchers to come together to share the craft. We can't wait to have you join us!
